Zeaxanthin, the active ingredient in OPTISHARP™, is a key part of the eye. It has two remarkable properties: it is both a powerful antioxidant and a filter to protect against the damaging blue light, near-to-UV rays, from the sun. A large number of research studies indicate that eating foods containing zeaxanthin and lutein are associated with a reduced risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading causes of blindness in the world. Normal foods are rich in lutein but limited in the amount of zeaxanthin they contain. Therefore, you should consider supplementing the foods you eat with OPTISHARP™ if you have a high risk of developing AMD or cataracts. Supplementation, however, does not cure any vision loss that has already occurred. Talk to your eye doctor to see if taking supplements or eating foods rich in zeaxanthin may help you.
